Couples Therapy

Partners work to understand each other's perspectives and models of the world.  Learn to understand each other's expectations, needs, and wants.  Create the space in between the partners that becomes their shared space.  Share how each experiences the world and expresses those experiences.

Couples work to understand boundaries, develop, and implement boundaries to strengthen their relationships.  Together you can explore trust and moving from a "me" perspective, to an "us" perspective.

Single Session Therapy

90-minute treatment session. Couples, friends, families, and individuals who are stuck, in conflict, disagreement, grief, pain, facing or considering life changes -- come together for one session of solution focused treatment.  This is for those who do not need extensive therapy, need specific focus, or feel a sense of urgency to address their issue.

Sessions usually involve discussing desired outcomes, problems, and specific background information for about 50 minutes.  Mike will take about 10 minutes to develop some interventions.  The last part of the treatment is spent discussing the interventions and creating a plan to go forward.

Michael Allison

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
American College of Sexologists

Mike is a family systems therapist.  He believes that all behaviors serve a purpose, even if they are not obviously productive.  Most problems and issues find their roots in relationships.  This is good because they can also be healed in healthy relationships.  Relationships are about relating -- realizing that our partners have a unique perspective of the world -- each of us has a unique perspective of the world.  We do not always have to understand WHAT that perspective is, we just need to understand THAT our partners have their perspective and it informs how they relate to themselves and others.

Communication is the key to a healthy, successful relationship.  Communication starts with trust and vulnerability, honesty, open-ness, curiosity, risk, and, of course, talking.  Trust is the foundation of love because it allows us to be vulnerable.  Trust is not black and white, it is an infinite, gray, spectrum.
